Footpath closed

Pedestrian/cyclist detour

Why is the trail being closed?

Leakes Park Industrial Estate by Time & Place isconductiong important sewer works to support planned development in the Truganina Employment Precinct

As part of the works and to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, the Federation Trail must be temporarily closed.

What works will be undertaken?

A sewer outfall will be installed, which will include deep trench excavation up to approximately 5m, underground boring, manhole installation and laying of the sewer main.

Why is the trail being closed?

Federation Trail will be closed between Banfield Court and Plamers Road with signed detours in place via Palmers Road and Leakes Road. The map above outlines the detour in more detail

Why did the trail have to be closed, were there alternative options?

We explored a number of options that would avoid the full closure of the pederation Trail, however due to the works area being almost 300m, as well as presence of existing vegetation and existing authority assets in this location, it was deemed that keeping the trail open would not be feasible. The open sewer trenches will measure up to 5m deep in some areas, posing a significant safety risk if the path was to remain open to the public during the works.

The recently completed OSAR-WRU works have upgraded Palmers and Leakes Roads which now feature new shared paths on both sides of the road. This new shared path infrastructure provides an alternative route for path users, to enable them to get around the proposed path closure.
